In August every year hundreds of thousands of visitors descend on Scotland’s Capital City of Edinburgh for the International and Fringe Festivals where theatre waits to be discovered in every nook and cranny of the city. As well as every theatre in the City, church halls, residents houses, tents on meadows, every space that can be utilised is transformed to house comedy, theatre, music, Shakespeare and the arts.
The Scots have a fond love of the Theatre and this is evident in the packed audiences of residential and touring shows all over the country, year round.
As well as Macbeth, which is set in Scotland , there are many famous plays by Scottish playwrights. These include Liz Lochhead's Mary Queen of Scots got her head chopped off and John Byrne's, Slab Boys.
The Perthshire Theatre scene presents a vast programme and there is much to enjoy including Perth Theatre, with its popular offering of drama, musicals and panto and the Pitlochry Festival Theatre. As well as a great selection of theatre, music and the arts Pitlochry offers Workshops from Theatre Masterclasses to Photography, Art and Costume. Dundee Rep offers Shakespeare amongst others and work by it’s own playwrights. Perth Concert Hall is a beautiful building and worthy winner of a number of building and design awards since opening in 2005.
