There are links to suit all handicaps and the vast choice of courses range from those set in dramatic coastal landscapes with spectacular sea views, inland fairways set amongst the heather, lavish rolling hills that reach out to the horizon to those that embrace Scotland’s most beautiful Lochs.
Stunning settings, undulating fairways and glorious greens await those who wish to fulfil their ‘gowffing’ ambitions and play at some of the world’s top venues. Or perhaps choose to go in quest of the smaller equally beautiful links with historical interest such as the oldest golf links in the world at Bruntsfield in Edinburgh. Surviving records in the archives of the Edinburgh Burgess Golfing Society state the first game of golf was played here in 1456. Almost every town in Scotland offers the opportunity to play the game of Kings within a short distance. You will be spoilt for choice but will want to return time and again to play another course another day.
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers, the world’s first Golfing club, was founded in Edinburgh in 1764. Others soon followed suit and before long there were clubs emerging all over Scotland, notably Aberdeen, Crail and St Andrews.
